I'm Sue Hong

By synthesizing systemic logic with human-centered empathy, I build scalable frameworks that transform complex challenges into seamless, high-fidelity experiences.

About

Before coming to Carnegie Mellon for my Master's in Design for Interactions, I worked as a UI designer in South Korea — shipping products across mobile apps, web platforms, and service design. I've worked on everything from end-to-end app redesigns to AR experiences and launched products that reached real users.

At CMU, I've been expanding my practice: conducting user research, building interactive prototypes, and exploring how physical craft principles — texture, resistance, weight — can inform more thoughtful digital interfaces. My background in ceramic and glass making isn't separate from my design work; it's the foundation of how I think about material quality in every screen I design.

What I bring to a team

Visual design & UI execution

High-fidelity interfaces, design systems, iconography, and layout with an eye for detail that comes from years of production work.

Motion & interaction design

Meaningful transitions and micro-interactions using After Effects, Figma prototyping, and code-aware handoff.

Research-informed decisions

User interviews, usability testing, and synthesis. I design from evidence, not assumptions.

Cross-functional collaboration

I've shipped with engineers, product managers, and stakeholders. I know how to move from concept to production.
